Comprehensive Hospital Training

Our residency program offers a broad range of in-patient care experiences, from critical care to emergency care to maternity care. Residents serve as direct care providers on all inpatient services, and leave the program with strong inpatient skill sets.

Family medicine is a major part of the Middlesex Hospital culture and its largest clinical department. We operate a busy family medicine inpatient service under the supervision of our family medicine faculty. On any given day we care for patients in the Emergency Department, Critical Care, Adult Inpatient Units, Labor Floor, Newborn Nursery, and provide medical consultation on Surgical and Psychiatric patients.

Continuity of care is a priority in our practice. Whenever any of our patients is hospitalized their primary family physician, either a resident or a faculty member, provides their care in the hospital in conjunction with our family medicine inpatient team.

In addition to our family medicine faculty, our residents work side-by-side with the hospital's leading attending physicians and specialists on a wide range of inpatient services. In fact, more than 90 hospital physicians teach in the residency program - a degree of participation you won't find in most family medicine programs.

Why Four Years?

Our residency program includes a fourth year of some of the most innovative learning experiences a resident can find anywhere, including our Tracks of Excellence.
